#AtlanticGames 2015 - #Euskadi / Resume
The 21st Atlantic Games, which are being held this year in Orio and Zarautz (Basque Country) from 13 to 17 July, were created in Brittany in 1995, with the aim of jointly promoting sports, tourism and culture in the regions and nationalities of Atlantic Europe. The best way of doing so is by competing in those specialities with closest ties to the sea: Surfing, sailing, rowing, canoeing and underwater activities. They emerged fruit of the will of a number of European regions in the Atlantic Arc to promote nautical activities through an international competition for young people: The Atlantic Games.
In their twenty previous editions, the Atlantic Nautical Games have been hosted in locations such as the Pays de La Loire, Brittany, Wales, Galicia, Cornwall, Scotland, Asturias, Northern Portugal, Ireland, Pays de Morlaix (Brittany), O Salnés (Pontevedra), Gijón, Cornwall and in Getxo-Sopelana in 2008.
The 21st Atlantic Nautical Games are therefore an event that aspires to exhibit and promote this particular nautical aspect of our regions, likewise fostering the creation of new possibilities for exchanges between peoples.
